Here’s some articles and pieces from the Internet about HINDRAF. I won’t comment on any of them, because they are diverse views, and I’d prefer if you thought about them and come up with your own conclusions.
1. Muslims Are Also Being Discriminated Against In Malaysia
2. It’s Apartheid, Says Poet Who Fled Malaysia. Please do read the full transcript on the interview with Sharanya, on her blog. The one DS Rafidah Aziz was shocked about.
3. Hindu Rights and Wrongs In Malaysia
4. Malaysian Indians Look At LTTE. A bit dramatic, in my opinion.

And for the rumour mongers, to ‘those’ certain SMSes that have been flying around about the 16th.

re: Muslims being discriminated against in Malaysia
This is especially true if you are a non-Malay Muslim (and, heaven forbid, a “Lain-Lain” Muslim). Firstly, people think you don’t exist. Then they think you are really a confused non-Muslim. Then they fight over why you do/don’t practice certain rites that are supposedly “islamic” but really are cultural differences. You don’t really belong anywhere - not Bumiputera, but not really the other side too. Stuck in the middle.

Firstly, I think this is very nicely put:
Some Malaysian leaders believe that India must not get involved in local affairs…
These ministers are not aware of diplomatic niceties. When you raise issues of minorities being mistreated in other parts of the world, people are going to question the treatment of minorities in your own country. -DSAI
Secondly, the view that if the govt doesn’t address the issues raised by Malaysian Indians, that they’ll find Malaysian Indians turning to more extremist influences for a solution, is very interesting. We’ve seen it happening all over the world, the downtrodden, when pushed further into a corner, become more and more desperate. Then all it takes is a spark and it’ll become harder for any reasonable engagement to occur.
